
The Chrysler Building is located on the east side of Manhattan at the intersection of 42nd Street and Lexington Avenue. The Chrysler Building was designed by architect William Van Alen to house the Chrysler Corporation. The construction commenced on September 19, 1928 and was completed on May 28, 1930. The Chrysler Building is considered a masterpiece of Art Deco skyscraper architecture. The distinctive ornamentation of the building is based on features that were then being used on Chrysler automobiles. The building is made of concrete, steel, stainless steel, and stone. It was one of the most decorated offices building in the world. This was the tallest building in the world from 1930 to 1931, when it was surpassed by the Empire State Building. However, it is still the tallest brick building in the world.
